    Grange × La Chapelle is een historische en unieke samenwerking tussen twee absolute iconen van de wijnwereld: Penfolds Grange (Australië) en La Chapelle van Paul Jaboulet Aîné (Frankrijk). Deze wijn symboliseert een ongekende ontmoeting tussen de Nieuwe Wereld en de Oude Wereld, waarin respect voor terroir, traditie en innovatie samenkomen.

    De wijn is een blend van Shiraz/Syrah, afkomstig van zorgvuldig geselecteerde percelen uit South Australia (voor de Grange-component) en de Hermitage-heuvel in de Noordelijke Rhône (voor La Chapelle). Elke component wordt afzonderlijk gevinifieerd volgens de hoogste standaarden van beide huizen, waarna ze samenkomen in een zeldzame, gelimiteerde cuvée.

    De rijping vindt plaats in Franse en Amerikaanse eikenhouten vaten, met een lange opvoeding die structuur, complexiteit en bewaarpotentieel garandeert. De stijl combineert de kracht, diepte en rijpheid van Australische Shiraz met de finesse, kruidigheid en mineraliteit van Hermitage Syrah.

    In de neus tonen van cassis, zwarte kers, viooltjes, peper, grafiet, leer en subtiele rook. In de mond monumentaal maar verfijnd, met een uitzonderlijke balans, gelaagdheid en een afdronk die minutenlang aanhoudt. Grange × La Chapelle is geen gewone wijn, maar een verzamelobject en een statement — eenmalig, historisch en van wereldklasse.

    Dark fruit in perfect ripeness, blackberries, some elderberries, plus an engaging freshness, cooling herbs, some graphite, subtle chocolate in the background, austerity providing complexity, but also almost floral, sweetish nuances. Also fresh and enormously elegant on the palate with very fine, superb tannins, again dark but fresh fruit and spices on the finish. Finishes juicy with notes of dark berries. Certain ageing potential.

    This extraordinary intercontinental blend of French syrah and Australian shiraz is a great cloud of spices and smoke. Extremely rich and plush, this has a unique texture on the full-bodied, wide-screen palate. The very fine-grained tannins anchor this masterpiece that marries the boldness of Grange at the front with the coolness of La Chapelle at the extremely long finish. The first vintage of this limited production wine that looks set to become a collector’s item. Drink or hold.

    The 2021 La Chapelle Grange leads with purple flowers, violets, blueberry, graphite and asphalt on the nose. There's licorice, aniseed, arnica, pepperilly and raspberry pip as well. In the mouth, the 2021 La Chapelle Grange is firm and tannic. with loads of dense texture, yet it is not rotund or bloated. The wine has a leanness and tensile strength that is attractive. There are notes of pressed flowers, white beach shells and tobacco, powdered cocoa, rhubarb and sweet roasted beetroot, with most characters existing on the blue-gray-purple spectrum. The Grange oak sits atop the nose, with a sense of flaked coconut. The wine is still robust and full throttle, but it has considerable length and detail in the tail of flavor, ever evolving and layered. The impact of the combination of the two wines is interesting: both philosophies are evident in the glass, and at this stage, they are grappling with each other for dominance.
